Oftentimes history books sugarcoat racism. On June 1, 1921, White Tulsans attacked the Greenwood district of Tulsa leaving many Black Tulsans dead, injured, lost, and homeless. Businesses, churches, schools, and homes were looted and burnt down. At the time many people called this event a riot, but that's not true. It was really a massacre. So what were the underlying causes of this massacre? It was racism but it's too simple to just say racism. What was fueling this racism?
