Week 1

For Co-Op I am interning at stellar care, a senior home! Most of the patients have some kind of dementia or alzheimer ​which is why they live there. Their days are full of activities which is what we help out with. We did things like puzzles, balloon game, painting, and story time. My favorite activity of the week was karaoke because we all got to sing and the residents would get excited seeing us sing even if we messed up. Hanna and I sang can't help falling in love which got everyone to sing which was just a nice moment I feel like I will remember forever. When they don't need help with activities I like to walk around and talk to my favorite residents that always have some advice for me. Sometimes they repeat the same advice but I don't mind because I need to hear things multiple times for it to stick. One of the residents always tell me that I just need to push through the difficult parts of school so I can enjoy the rest of life which I want to start reminding myself that my hard work will be worth it in the end. Overall my first week was great and I'm excited for what the second week holds for us! 

Week 2

My second week of internship was a little weird due to the nursing home having a vivid outbreak. When we found out on Tuesday we went to school to workshop with taylor what we would do for the week. The next day we went to OB for a beach cleanup then just enjoyed the sun because it was a hot day. On Thursday it was hanna’s birthday so we got the day off and on Friday we went to school. We talked to teachers and worked on our exit interviews. I made pretty good progress I feel like and overall I feel like the week went well. Even though we didn’t get to go to internship we made the most of it.

Week 3

This week was a short week because of gradnite but we still had so much fun. We spent most of the week on the fourth floor hanging out with residents and getting to know them more. It makes us a little sad because just as internship is about to end we're getting close to residents. We helped give out snacks, baked cookies, and played games with them as well this week. We hope that next week we will be able to spend more time on the fourth floor because we know those residents the most and we want to end internship with them! 

Week 4

The last week was probably the most fun I had with the residents which makes me sad since we wont be coming back next week. This week we did crafts and played games. We also watched a movie while doing nails. All of the residents knew us and we became really close with them. I learned their likes and dislikes. I also learned about their lives before coming into the nursing home. It makes me sad saying goodbye but I'm also ready for the next stage of my life. I will always remember the residents and the fun times I had with them.
